Early Life
William Estes Buckley was born and raised November 3, 1918 in Sunflower County, Mississippi to parents William Estes Buckley Sr. and Dorothy Buckley. He was the brother to four siblings: Ruth (July 10, 1909-October 25, 1989), Harry (Harry (September 24, 1916-January 23, 1993), Elsie (December 31, 1911-February 27, 2010), and Ralph (1926-June 28, 1928). His father was a farmer and his mother was a housewife. Ruth, William, Elsie, and Harry were well educated and and they all graduated from Cleveland High School.

William continued his education past high school and enrolled in Delta State Teacher's College in Cleveland, Mississippi. In his short three years at Delta State Teacher's College, he became active in campus life serving as vice president of his freshman class. He studied at Delta State Teacher's College for three years, but he never received a degree and received 148 quarter hours of credit. Shortly after leaving Delta State, he became a mail carrier in 1938. He met his wife, Clariece Kelly, while in college.
